What problem it solves

Risk assessments say what could go wrong. Method statements say how the work will actually be done so it does not. Clients increasingly ask for both, paired.

Who it is for

Contractors carrying out defined higher-risk activities, and anyone whose client requires a safe work method statement before access.

What the document covers

How to use it

Write it against the corresponding task risk assessment so the two agree. A method statement that contradicts its own risk assessment undermines both.

Limitations to be aware of

It describes an intended method. If the work deviates on site, the document no longer reflects reality and needs revising rather than quietly ignoring.

This is general information. A template provides a structured starting point and does not by itself create legal compliance. What your organisation and site require comes from the applicable legislation and a competent practitioner.
