1. Who we are
Contractor Academy is operated by Operational Support Services Africa CC ("OSS Africa"), trading as Contractor Academy. References to "we", "us" and "our" mean OSS Africa.
2. Ownership and licence
All Contractor Academy assessment questions, answer options, explanations, training content, databases, document templates and associated educational materials remain the intellectual property of OSS Africa and/or its licensors. Purchase grants the customer a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable right to access and use the purchased digital content for the stated access period. No ownership rights are transferred.
The NHBRC Technical Assessment Preparation question bank is supplied as an online licence only. It is not sold as, and will not be supplied as, a downloadable, exportable or printable document.
3. Permitted use
You may access and use the licensed content personally, for your own preparation and your own business use, during your access period.
4. Prohibited use
Except where a right cannot lawfully be excluded, you may not:
- copy, print, download, export or otherwise reproduce the question bank;
- scrape, harvest, or extract content by automated means;
- redistribute, publish, resell, sublicense or otherwise make the content available to others;
- share your account, credentials or access with any other person;
- create derivative works, competing question banks or training materials from our content;
- use the content for commercial training, teaching or resale without our prior written permission;
- remove, obscure or alter any watermark, notice or attribution.
We may suspend or revoke access where these terms are breached. Revocation for breach does not by itself create a refund entitlement.
5. What Contractor Academy is, and is not
Contractor Academy provides independent preparation material. Our NHBRC material is assessment-style preparation based on applicable South African building standards and subject matter. It is not an official NHBRC examination, it does not reproduce NHBRC examination papers, and it is not endorsed by, affiliated with or accredited by the NHBRC or any other authority.
We do not guarantee any assessment outcome. Certificates issued are Certificates of Completion and are not accredited qualifications.
6. Documents and templates
Document products are editable templates and starting points. You must confirm their applicability to your organisation, sector, activities, workplace and client requirements before adoption. Purchase provides the selected product and revision only. A later revision is a separate offer and is not automatically included in an earlier purchase.
7. Access period and availability
Where a product states an access period, access runs from the date the entitlement is granted following successful payment confirmation. NHBRC Technical Assessment Preparation is a once-off purchase providing 90 days of access. It does not renew automatically and is not a subscription.
8. Payment
Prices are shown in South African Rand and are determined by us. Access is granted only after our systems confirm successful payment.
9. Refunds
Refunds are dealt with in our Refund Policy, which forms part of these terms.
10. Your statutory rights
Nothing in these terms excludes, limits or waives any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002, or any other South African law where that right cannot lawfully be excluded.
11. Communications
Creating an account means we will send you messages about that account. These service messages include email verification, mobile or WhatsApp number verification, password resets, security notices, purchase confirmation, access and entitlement information, and certificate availability. They are part of providing the service and are not marketing.
Marketing messages — training tips, product updates and offers — are separate. They are sent only where you have given consent for that specific channel. Email marketing and WhatsApp marketing are independent consents, both default to off, and neither is a condition of creating a free account or of using Contractor Academy. You may withdraw either at any time under Communication preferences in your account, without affecting your account, your access or anything you have purchased.
Providing a mobile or WhatsApp number is optional. Verifying a number confirms it belongs to you; it is not consent to receive marketing, and the two are recorded separately.
12. Subscription products and Document Central
Contractor Academy offers two materially different things. The NHBRC Technical Assessment Preparation product is a once-off purchase granting 90 days of access; it does not renew. Contractor Academy Pro is a recurring monthly subscription granting continuing access to Document Central and the tools released within it. Where a recurring subscription product is activated, it renews monthly until cancelled, and the price applicable at the time of purchase applies.
What a subscription grants. A Pro subscription grants a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to access and use Document Central and its tools online while the subscription is active. It is a right of access to a service. It is not a sale, licence-in-perpetuity, or transfer of the platform.
What Contractor Academy retains. Contractor Academy and Operational Support Services Africa CC retain all rights in the platform and its software, the master document library and templates, the document taxonomy and document-control system, the generation engine, the question banks, and the underlying architecture. None of these is sold or transferred to a customer at any price.
What remains yours. Your business information remains yours. That includes your company profile, your company logo, the site and project information you enter, and the records and documents you create in your workspace. Storing that information on our system does not transfer ownership of it to us. You grant us only the permission needed to store, process and display it in order to provide the service — for example, to place your logo on a document you ask us to generate.
Generated documents. A document you generate is produced for your organisation through your licensed use of the platform. You may use, print and share it operationally for your own compliance purposes, including presenting it to clients, auditors, sites, employees and regulators. You do not receive ownership of the underlying master template, and you may not resell, redistribute or licence the master templates or the platform itself. The current version inside Document Central remains the authoritative one.
Suspension, cancellation and retention. If a subscription payment is not made, access may move to a short grace period and then be suspended. Suspension removes access to Pro features; it does not immediately delete your workspace. Your workspace is retained after termination for a configured period — currently 90 days — after which it is marked for review. If you resubscribe within that period your workspace is restored and you continue from where you left off.
Account security. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for activity carried out under your account.
Recurring subscription billing is not yet activated. Contractor Academy Pro is shown at its approved price but cannot currently be purchased, and no recurring payment is taken. This clause governs the subscription once it is activated.
13. Changes
We may update these terms. The version in force at the time of your purchase applies to that purchase, and the version you accepted is recorded against your order.
