Site-Specific Construction Risk Assessment Guide
Build construction risk assessments around the actual site, people, sequence, equipment and interfaces instead of relying on generic hazard lists.
Walk the work area
Observe access, neighbours, overhead and underground services, ground conditions, traffic, public exposure, storage, weather and simultaneous work. Site photographs and marked-up plans improve context.
Break the task into steps
A useful assessment follows the real work sequence from delivery and setup through execution, testing, housekeeping and demobilisation. Missing a step often means missing its hazard.
Consider who may be harmed
Include workers, subcontractors, visitors, clients, the public and vulnerable persons where relevant. Consider language, competence, fatigue and occupational-health exposure.
Link controls to supervision
State who checks each critical control, when it is checked and what evidence is retained. Controls that exist only on paper are not effective controls.
Brief and revise
Discuss the assessment with the team before work and after material change. Record attendance and understanding, but verify implementation through observation and inspection.
