Construction Method Statement Guide
A practical method-statement structure covering scope, responsibilities, resources, sequence, quality checks, safety controls and emergency arrangements.
Describe the intended result
Identify the activity, location, drawing or specification references, interfaces, exclusions and acceptance criteria. Readers should know exactly which work the statement controls.
Define resources and competence
List responsible people, required skills, plant, tools, access equipment, materials and protective equipment. Confirm that prerequisites are available before starting.
Write the sequence clearly
Describe preparation, delivery, setup, execution, inspection, testing, protection and completion in working order. Highlight steps that cannot proceed without approval.
Integrate safety and quality
Connect each significant step to its risk controls and quality checks. A separate risk assessment may provide detail, but the method statement should show where controls apply.
Manage change
Stop and review when site conditions, design, sequence, resources or interfaces differ materially from the approved method. Brief the revised method before continuing.
