The technical assessment is one part of becoming and remaining a registered home builder. This guide covers how to prepare for that assessment. It does not set out registration requirements, fees or procedure — those are determined by the NHBRC and should be confirmed with them directly.

Preparing in the weeks before
Give yourself enough time to test, study and re-test rather than cramming. A workable pattern is to sit a diagnostic test early, spend the bulk of the time on the two or three weakest competency areas, and reserve the final stretch for a full mock assessment.
What to bring to your preparation
Site experience is an advantage, but it can also entrench habits that are common rather than correct. Where your practice answers disagree with how something is usually done on site, treat that as a signal worth investigating rather than an error in the question.
