Check materials before building
Confirm that units, sand, cement and other materials are appropriate and protected. Inconsistent units or contaminated materials create avoidable variation before workmanship begins.
Control mortar and workmanship
Mortar must be consistently batched and used appropriately. Joints, bonding, line, level and plumb require continuous control rather than correction only at the end of a wall.
Protect continuity at openings and junctions
Openings, wall ties, cavities, damp-proof courses, lintels and movement details are common failure points. Inspect these items while they remain visible.
Do not improvise structural changes
Chases, openings, support details and changes to load-bearing walls can affect structural performance. Refer departures from approved information to the responsible competent person.
Use staged quality checks
Record first-off approval, daily checks, concealed details and corrective work. Good records connect the location, drawing revision, defect, correction and person who accepted it.
