Construction Snag List and Handover Guide
Plan construction completion with disciplined inspections, defect ownership, evidence, commissioning, documents and client acceptance.
Define completion requirements early
Identify inspections, tests, certificates, manuals, drawings, warranties, training and client deliverables before the final weeks.
Inspect progressively
Use area and trade inspections throughout the project. Waiting until the end produces congestion, repeated damage and disputes over responsibility.
Write actionable snag items
Each item should identify the exact location, required condition, actual defect, responsible party, due date and verification status. Photographs help when they are clearly referenced.
Control closure
Do not close items only because someone reports completion. Verify the corrected work against the requirement and record acceptance.
Complete documentary handover
Reconcile approvals, test results, commissioning records, as-built information, warranties, operating information, keys, spares and signed acceptance.
